Big Ben

Big Ben is one of the landmarks of England or the United Kingdom which is located in the capital of England, namely London, precisely located north of the Palace of Westminser. Big ben itself is actually the name of a large bell inside the clock tower. However, later many called Big Ben as the overall name of the clock tower. Big Ben also has another name, namely Elizabeth Tower, where the name was inaugurated to coincide with the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II leading the United Kingdom and its Commonwealth of Nations. In addition to the Palace of Westminser in the vicinity, there is also the Tower Bridge, and the river Thames.

The Big Ben clock tower was built in conjunction with the planning for the construction of the new Palace of Westminser after the previous Palace of Westminser was destroyed by fire. This clock tower was built by Charles Barry with a height of 96.3 meters or 316 feet. The tower is designed in a Victorian gothic style. The tower is built on a land measuring 15 meters by 15 meters, the foundation is made of concrete 3 meters thick, at a depth of 4 meters below the surface. All sides of the clock are 55 meters above the ground. There are also 23 light bulbs that illuminate each of the clocks on the four sides of the tower. Each lamp that illuminates the face of a clock can last for almost 60,000 hours or 7 years. This will create a very beautiful view of the Big Ben tower when viewed at night, because the tower and the surrounding area will be seen very clearly because of the lights that illuminate it.

The Big Ben tower or the Elizabeth tower which became the icon of course is the clock from the tower. The clock from the Big Ben tower is one of the clock towers with very accurate time. This is due to the existence of a pendulum clock supported by ancient coins. The stack of coins balances the pendulum's center of mass so that the pendulum swings stable so that the timing is consistent and this has been recognized, so the clock on the tower is one of the mainstays for British people. To make it look attractive, in addition to the clock being designed in Neo Classical style by Edmund Beckett Denison, and George Airy, a Royal Astronomer and made by Edward John Dent, the hands on the clock are also given their original color, namely Prussian Blue, and also added lights - LED lights to beautify the watch face.

As has been written in the previous paragraph that around the Big Ben tower or the Elizabeth tower there are Tower Bridge and the Thames. First, I will describe Tower Bridge. Tower Bridge is a building located on a bridge that stretches over the Thames and is an icon for the city of London. This bridge has two designs, namely a suspension bridge for highways and pedestrians, as well as a lift bridge to make it easier if there are large ships that pass through this bridge.

Next up is the Thames. The River Thames is a river that flows in the south of England and connects the city of London with the sea. The 356 kilometer long river with an area of 12,935 km² of water empties into the North Sea and is the longest river in England. Most areas on the banks of the Thames, especially Southbank, are very pedestrian friendly.

The last thing I will describe is the red double-decker bus which is the hallmark of the city of London. This London red double decker bus is given a red color because the color is very eye-catching and striking and is very closely related to the image of the city of London itself, such as other things that are red, namely telephone booths and the uniform of the British queen's bodyguard, but of course it not a must.
